French Palissy Style trompe l’oeil platter attributed to School of Paris likely Achille Barbizet (son of Victor Barbizet), moulded and applied with fish resting on foliage with a pearl colored background,c. 1880.
The fish and shells are likely inspired inspired by the work of the Renaissance potter Bernard Palissy. Victor Barbizet, the father of Achille Barbizet founded the School of Paris which was a group of specialist potters in Paris producing Pallisy Ware.
